HELLO! I'M TIM MILEY...

…welcome to my website.  This website is, and will likely always be, a work in progress.  I retired from the Aerospace Industry in 2010 and got into woodworking somewhat by accident when I decided I needed cabinets in my garage.  At the time I had more determination than talent.

So, at the encouragement of the good folks at Rockler in San Diego, I began taking classes at Palomar College in San Marcos in the spring of 2011.  Before I could enroll in my first class, I had built a workbench and more cabinets than anyone needs in their garage all from plans I downloaded from the internet and a book on cabinet making.

The best part of graduating from beginner to novice to advanced woodworker and wood turner, is that you build your skills filling your own home with furniture and turned wooden articles and making one of a kind gifts for family and friends.  Along the way, my wife Jackie, my first and most demanding client, allowed me to convert our 3-car garage into a well-equipped workshop.  In my gallery you will find some pictures of the furniture I have built for our home.

I am a member of the San Diego Fine Woodworkers Association, the San Diego Wood Turners and the American Association of Wood Turners.  I like to work with both solid woods and veneers (both commercial and shop-made veneers) as appropriate for the piece’s function and use.  However, turning is what I do to relax and have fun. I particularly like turning bowls, platters, hollow forms, pens, bottle stoppers and handles for shop and kitchen tools.   Representative pieces can be viewed on the gallery page of the website.
